Event Details

  1. When will the event take place? Where is it being hosted?

    The event will begin with a virtual kickoff on November 9th. After a weeklong period for teams to meet, create their projects, and prepare a pitch, an in person event will be hosted at StartX in Palo Alto, CA from November 16th to 17th.

  2. Does the event venue have parking?

    Yes! The StartX facility has parking.

  3. If our team’s registration is approved, will our travel to the event be sponsored?

    Unfortunately, no, travel costs for approved participants will not be sponsored.

Application and Eligibility

  1. Who is this competition for?

    This competition is for anyone with a passion for revolutionizing digital health through generative AI. We welcome students, engineers, clinicians, industry experts, academic partners, UX/UI professionals, program management experts, product managers, executives and consultants. We have roles as Speakers, Mentors, Participants, Judges, Sponsors and Workshop Teachers.

  2. What healthcare-related experience do I need to participate?

    No prior healthcare experience is needed.

  3. Do I have to be a current student?

    No, you can be a student, a StartX founder, or an independent software engineer to participate.

  4. Are there size restrictions for each team?

    Teams can have at most 4 people. Smaller teams will be accepted as well! However, we’ll only be selecting 40 teams in total.

  5. Can students from different educational levels (MPH, MHA, PhD, BS, MS, etc.) form a team?

    Teammates can be in different degree programs.

  6. Do they need to be from the same university?

    No, teammates can be from different universities.

  7. Can university-affiliated staff like faculty, postdocs, and/or Research Assistants participate?

    University-affiliated staff like faculty, postdocs, and/or Research Assistants should check with their institution's policies regarding participation in external events, especially if there are potential conflicts of interest or intellectual property concerns.

  8. Do you have to be on a team in order to sign up?

    No, you don’t have to be on a team to apply.

Competition Format and Requirements

  1. What types of problems will we be working on?

    The challenge prompt will be released on November 9th during the virtual kickoff.

  2. What is the event schedule like?

    All events will be virtual and recorded. They will be scheduled at various times and days of the week to allow for a range of participation from speakers, mentors, and participants in different time zones (EST to PST).

  3. Do I need to attend every session?

    It is recommended, but not required. We understand that participants will be students with classes and other obligations. However, we will be tracking engagement in cases of tie-break for initial selection.

  4. How much time should I expect to spend during the competition?

    You should expect to meet with your team at least 3 times during the weeklong work period to discuss the problem, create your solution, and prepare a pitch.

  5. Will there be mentors available during the competition?

    Yes. We have dozens of experienced mentors already signed up to support student teams during the competition. We will pair your team with mentor(s) with relevant experience, and there will be scheduled mentor days.

  7. What does the implementation process look like after the challenge?

    Implementation support will differ depending on the team and the idea. We will support the winning team with resources for continuing to develop the idea and accountability from an advisory board.
